Nine Single Vineyard Riserva Barbaresco
“Aldo Vacca and his team at the Produttori del Barbaresco cooperative continue to turn out gorgeous wines that deliver a remarkable combination of quality and value. This year's releases include the 2017 Riservas and the 2018 Barbaresco.” - Antonio Galloni, Vinous
The 2017 Produttori del Barbaresco Crus are here!
This is your chance to grab not one but all nine single vineyard expressions from the famed Produttori del Barbaresco. This cooperative is perhaps the most consistent and top of its class in the wine world today. Managing director and winemaker Aldo Vacca has once again guided Produttori del Barbaresco to one of the finest collections of wines of the vintage.
“The resulting Barbarescos range from elegant—showing floral, red fruit and white pepper aromas and flavors—to broad, with cherry, plum and savory notes alongside dusty tannins and darker characters underscored by dense structures. The best wines display tension and underlying minerality. Altogether, there is an austerity Vacca considers similar to that of the 2013s when they were young.” - Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator
The consistency and affordability of Produttori del Barbaresco is one of the great buys in cellar worthy wines. These are known for their ability to age for decades with ease and have consistently been a fraction of the price of Giacosa and Gaja. While staunch traditional Nebbiolo lovers have always had a special place in their cellars for Produttori del Barbaresco over the years, we have seen a massive growth in wine lovers all over the world buying up these wines for their quality and more recent approachability.
If Aldo Vacca believes the inherent structure of the 2017s is akin to the 2013s, then we are all in for a treat! 2013s are simply stunning and gorgeous wines that are already showing a personality and approachability that make them extremely hard to resist yet the energy and structure of the wine continues to showcase a longevity of serious length. That is why, we are excited for the 2017s and have secured this rather larger parcel since there are no Riserva Cru wines in the 2018 vintage. So, the next release of single vineyard Produttori del Barbaresco will not be until 2024.
Produttori del Barbaresco has been hitting it out of the ballpark these past years with a string of excellent vintages that resulted in the production of their entire line of Riservas. However, that good momentum comes to an end because the Riservas were not made in 2018. That vintage saw all the fruit blended into one non-MGA Barbaresco. And with the 2017 Riservas reviewed here, you might find these bottles hard to find. Production was 30% lower in this growing season because of a very careful fruit selection process. - Monica Larner, the Wine Advocate
This is the time to grab some of these wines before they disappear and the pricing of these noteworthy Barbaresco pushes north of $100. With the anticipation of the 2019 vintage over a year away, this just might be the last vintage of Produttori del Barbaresco Riserva sub-$100.
Cheers,
