Sicily’s Grand Cru White Wine
Bottle Aged Perfection
Benanti’s famed PietraMarina is Carricante grown on the slopes of Mount Etna, these 80 plus year old vines continue to produce one of the most complex and age-worthy whites in all of Europe.
The wine is super distinctive and unique. The island's feel of warmth and perfumed aromatics leap from the glass with intense fruit that ranges from citrus to green pear and apple. The mineral characteristics of the wine are not shy and are impossible to miss. The texture is amazing with a mouthfeel that is full and racy at the same time. There is a vein of salinity in the wine that compels you to take another sip.
That’s the wine in its youth and as it ages it becomes one of the most complex and layered whites you will encounter. Many equate the complexity and depth of PietraMarina to great old dry Riesling, while others like the comparison to old school white Burgundy or northern Rhone.
The point is this wine ages and becomes one of the most unique and complex whites in all of Italy.
The 2018 vintage is a stunningly youthful example that is beginning to put on that extra bottle complexity and aromatic nuances. It’s hard to imagine that while most of the white wine producers around the globe are beginning to offer their 2022 vintage, we have this rare opportunity to secure one of the great legendary white wines of the world with four more years of age. This is going to be a real treat for this spring!
