Wine Enthusiast: 100 Points

?This gorgeous fragrant wine opens with classic Sangiovese scents of violet rose perfumed red berry new leather and a whiff of baking spice. The elegant radiant palate delivers crushed Marasca cherry ripe strawberry cinnamon black tea and a hint of pipe tobacco. Firm ultrafine tannins and bright acidity offer an age-worthy structure and impeccable balance. It's already stunning but will evolve for decades. Drink 2020?2050.?

?Fantastic aromas of coffee tea leaf ripe plums and ginger follow through to a full body firm and silky tannins and a rich and subtle finish. The is dense and powerful yet very refined and reserved. It needs at least five years to show its true character. One of the most refined Biondi-Santi riservas I can remember. The tannin texture is exceptional. Try in 2020.?

A darker garnet/red color the 2010 Brunello Di Montalcino Riserva is classic to a T with aromas of graphite sanguine blood orange dried cherries espresso and as it opens it turns to more kirsch as well as dried roses and worn leather. Medium-bodied but chiseled in structure with ripe refreshing tannins a fantastic balanced structure andnotes of Mediterranean herbs it floats on the palate for a long time with all its hallmark components intertwining. A gorgeous wine that?s just starting to show what it is capable of this is a phenomenal benchmark wine for the ages. Drink 2024-2054. Stunning. The wines for this report were tasted in January 2024 at the estate with Federico Radi the Viticulture and Winemaking Director. While the sale of the estate to French group Epi is still fresh on many consumer minds one thing is certain ? Radi is committed to taking this estate into the future while retaining the DNA of Biondi-Santi. His humility and dedication to the greater purpose of the estate is palpable and as his wines are beginning to come into the market (Radi joined the producer in 2017) there?s a lot to be excited about despite his not wanting to make a fuss over his own efforts. As of this year they have planted new vines on the property between their iconic Cypress-lined entrance and the Pian Dell?Orino estate next door. They have worked the land to create a terraced vineyard both to preserve water retention and to prevent erosion. In recent years they have also partnered with consultant Pedro Parra to continue to explore their soil structures and parcels further.

Wine Advocate: 96 Points

?The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is slow to open and I spent a good amount of extra time with this wine as a result. It was well worth the wait. The intensity inches up in baby steps. With time the wine is splendent and focused with a very direct and impactful delivery of aromas. It also shows a specifically floral personality with dried rose petal or blue violet that I did not recognize in most of the other Brunellos from this classic vintage. There is power and determination behind those feminine aromas. The wine makes a lasting impression in the mouth thanks to the textual tightness of its tannins and the refreshing crispness of the acidity. The Riserva sees fruit sourced from Il Greppo's oldest vines (25-years-old and more) and the wine ages in traditional oak casks for three years.? -Monica Larner

Vinous: 95+ Points

?The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is just as compelling today as it was the many times I tasted it from cask with Franco Biondi Santi prior to his passing although it naturally has less of the immediacy it had out of oak. Layered silky and translucent yet with remarkable depth the 2010 Riserva is a wine of intensity power and the classic austerity that has been such a signature of these Brunellos for the last several decades. Readers will have to be patient.?
