The dark purple 2022 Syrah Eddie's Patch comes from south-facing slopes along the Mayacamas on red soils and offers notes of blackberries candied lavender olive and a light gamey ripe feel. Meaty on the palate it delivers ripe tannins that build a touch on the finish and it has a more grounded feel although it does keep freshness. It is going to show its best over the next 10-12 years. It needs a little time in bottle to open but it would be a killer with steak. Drink 2026-2037.
jdThe 2022 Syrah Eddie's Patch was harvested on September 6 just after the Labor Day heat wave began and although it's a powerful expression the Eddie's Syrah retains elegance and should be long lived in the cellar. The nose offers cassis blueberry and violet and it has a wildness lent by smoky sanguine undertones reminiscent of beef cooking over a fire. The full-bodied palate is bold but pretty with layer after layer of dark floral fruit. It's structured by powdery tannins and fireworks of fresh acidity and it has a long pure finish. Just 340 cases were made. Published: Jul 11 2024
