There was a touch of sousbois to the nose and orange elements to the colour but a dense and sturdy middle indicated that the wine is not too old but just going through a transitional phase. The finish was a little bit on the dry side with quite firm tannins. I like the density but this was before most of the vineyards had been converted to biodynamic farming and at this period the wines from Rossignol-Trapet did tend to have a firmer finish than they do today. Tasted at the domaine.

A touch of wood spice frames notes of game bright red fruit and a touch of mineral-infused earth that lead to complex very ripe and long flavors that offer a sense of breed and class plus excellent length where the toast again shows up and while it's not intrusive it's still just enough to detract from the other gorgeous flavors. This is also extremely forward for a young grand cru especially for the 2002 vintage. (Drink starting 2007)
