Giacosa Barolo Falletto Bruno Giacosa was a legendary force in Piedmont. Many would argue that without Bruno Giacosa and his wines, Piedmont wine would be nowhere near the level of popularity, sophistication and quality that it enjoys today. We are not only talking about Barolo and Barbaresco, Giascosa defined and shaped all wines in Piedmont from sparkling to Barbera. From the age of 14, Bruno Giacosa had his hand in producing wine. Those yearly and formidable years gave Giacosa a broad outlook on the wines of Piedmont and its vineyards. Bruno Giacosa became one of the most admired and respected individuals in the region for identifying top quality vineyards, sites and of course talented winemakers. It was Giacosa’s innate ability to identify the best of the best consistently that led to the assembly of very high quality wines consistently that gave way to a new wave of consumers and fans. In the 1980s Giacosa began purchasing vineyards rather than staying the course of contracting. One of his key purchases was the Falletto vineyard in Serralunga d’Alba, the base of many of his Barolo and the source for the legendary Riserva “Red Label.” The sum of Falletto is a marvelous vineyard that is truly one of the greatest of the region. The label of a Giacosa wine is important to pay attention to the little details. All wines whether estate or purchased fruit are exceptional but the estate wines called Falletto di Bruno Giacosa today are of course prime vineyards that have an unprecedented proven track record in the hands of the Giacosa family, now run by Bruna Giacosa, Bruno’s daughter.
