The Barolo 2020 Vintage is a very pretty and elegant vintage. It is a winemaker’s vintage for sure. Everyone Barolo winemaker I have talked to are genuinely in love with the 2020 Vintage. It is a vintage that is ethereal, perfumed, complex aromatically and one that has endless liveliness and freshness.

The best of 2020 so far present wines that those of us that have loved the 2008 vintage will find very appealing as well. So far this is one wine that everyone seems to agree on. From the critics to the winemakers to the general public, the one 2020 Barolo that everyone is talking about and agreeing is absolutely stunning is the 2020 Bricco delle Viole from G.D. Vajra.

When reading the first waves of press out so far, the Vajra Bricco delle Viole is the most consistently rated and commented on wine of the vintage. I’ve tasted the wine personally several times now and I can attest this wine has behaved very consistently and every time is simply delicious. I love the fruit versus floral nature in this vintage, the wine has some texture but is very lifted in the mid-palate and has a very long, yet elegant finish. 

While these terms can be overused, this is a Barolo of balance, refinement, and finesse. 

Audrey Frick at JebDunnuck.com in May published her Piedmont report and the star of the 2020 Barolo report is Bricco delle Viole with 98 points!

I’ve been so impressed with this wine that I’ve made sure to stock up on magnums as best I could. I truly believe that this is easily going to be that defining vintage for the Vajra family and Bricco delle Viole, where this wine is poised to transcend the vintage and become one of their most sought after and collected wines. 

Antonio Galloni finishes his review with the simple sentence, “I would be thrilled to own it.” I can tell you that I am thrilled to own it and personally believe that is a legend in the making.

Audrey Frick states:  "This is one of the most complete wines I’ve tasted from Vjara to date."

While I am enthralled with Bricco delle Viole, the entire Barolo range for the Vajra family in 2020 is absolutely top notch and all are impressive and stunning wines that Barolo lovers should explore and experience.
