Quintessential Meursault Between Roulot & Fichet Genot-Boulanger, for me, is a style of Meursault that I put in the middle of Roulot and Fichet. Since Guillaume Lavolle has started making the wines at Genot-Boulanger he has taken inspiration from the advancements in the village of Meursault turning this estate into one of the fastest growing properties in demand from the white Burgundy collecting circle. By employing similar techniques of Roulot and Fichet the wines at Genot-Boulanger have become focused, refined and extremely transparent. While I would say that Fichet is on the leaner, brisker side of the spectrum with more taunt acidity and Roulot, while beloved for their piercing acidity, has a bit more weight and flesh in the mid palate, Genot-Boulanger sits firmly in between, especially with the Clos du Cromin. The Clos du Cromin is lemony and full of classic Meursault fruit with elements of minerality and dried spices. The texture is racy with just a bit of mid palate flesh and oiliness that makes this a very quintessential Meursault today. These wines are extremely well worth collecting and consuming. They hold well but more importantly they drink well from the start which is what most of us white Burgundy drinkers want today. Cheers, |
