Krug 2011 Is Here! The newest vintage of Krug Champagne has arrived! The house of Krug is known for their dogmatic takes on Champagne. The blend, Grande Cuvee, always comes first and only when there is something truly special and unique should there be a Vintage Champagne. This stance has left Champagne Krug producing some of the most noteworthy wines of landmark vintages such as the 1996, 2002 and 2008. At other times it has meant that Krug did not produce a Vintage Champagne when most of their peers did, reserving the harvest for Grande Cuvee. There has been no Vintage Krug from 2010, 2009, 2007, 2005, 2001, or 1999 for instance. Moreover, there has been the rare occurrence of when the team at Krug felt that a more problematic and challenging year was in fact a unique and exceptional Vintage Krug. The truth is a Vintage Krug is produced from every harvest but only when the team at Krug agrees are the wines personality and character can it be declared Vintage Krug. Krug Vintage 2011 is one of these rare occasions when the team at Krug believed in the uniqueness of the year from the house of Krug perspective. Taking the decision to release a wine from one of the most challenging harvests in Champagne the 2011 Vintage Krug joins the likes of 2003 and 1981. 2011 Vintage Krug bucks the norm and truly represents a wine that is distinctively Krug. This is a wine that only Champagne Krug could have made. The textures and opulence of fruit is generous and inviting, the wine inviting appeal is present immediately and by all accounts will remain so for many years to come unlike most Vintage Krug Champagne that tend to enter a closed down phase after release. The fruit and florality leap from the glass and are supported by a lemony custard and pastry crust aromatic that brings a decadence yet savory quality to the wine.
