Yesterday, Jeb Dunnuck released his report of tasting the 2019 Châteauneuf-du-Papes in bottle, giving his final scores. So far, Jeb is the only critic to release a truly comprehensive report on the 2019 Châteauneuf Vintage, rating more producers than anyone to date on the vintage. In fact, every single 2019 Châteauneuf that we have has been rated by Jeb Dunnuck except for one white wine!
As one of the premier authorities and tasters for Rhone wines in the USA, Jeb Dunnuck first came to wine press recognition with his Rhone Report, then succeeded Robert Parker Jr. as the Rhone critic at the Wine Advocate, before branching out on his own with the wonderful wine review website JebDunnuck.com.
Here are all the 2019 Châteauneuf-du-Pape that we have in-stock right now, all with Jeb’s scores. Needless to say, we have the creme de la creme of the vintage, with most wines rated 96 to 100 points!
The 2019 Vintage is one that has proven to blossom in the bottle, exceeding many’s expectations and initial tastings. In Jeb’s report most wines performed at the higher end of his initial barrel score range, with numerous wines being upgraded.
Looking first at the 2019s, the majority of which were tasted out of bottle, these are rich, powerful wines that have full-bodied, structured profiles that are going to benefit from bottle age. This is a great, at times exceptional, vintage for the Southern Rhône that checks in just behind all-time greats such as 2016, 2010, 2007, 2001, and 1998, yet is unquestionably in the same league of 2017, 2009, 2006, 2005, and 2000. In my mind, 2019 is vastly superior to 2018 and a solid step up over 2020.

Just like in Bordeaux and Burgundy, the Rhone has performed remarkably well in 2019 turning out exceptionally wines just like in 2005, 2009, and 2010. To share company with these landmark vintages, the 2019s are poised to deliver great enjoyment and drinking wines for the next three decades with ease.
Cheers,
Jeremy
