Best Scavino Barolo Yet!?!

As we commented last year:
“Paolo Scavino has been on a roll and recent vintages have reached new heights at this iconic estate.”
This statement is even more important and evident with the 2017 vintage! The father - daughter trio at Scavino have released a range of some of the finest Barolo of the 2017 vintage that stand up remarkably well against their landmark 2016s.
When released, we thought the Scavino 2016s were simply just out of this world. We still do. They are magnificent wines and easily some of the family’s finest wines ever. However, the 2017s from Scavino are in the same league as the epic 2016s. It is remarkable.
This is a must-have vintage for Barolo lovers that love to enjoy the new Scavino wines and frankly enjoy Barolo with mid-term cellaring. And these are must-taste wines for any Barolo lover that has had their doubts about Scavino, for when you do - it is immediately apparent the quality, depth, character and grace that are now present in these wines. These are wines that really show the skill that the Scavinos have and are putting into their wines today.
This is another example of a vintage where the heart of Scavino’s historic sites really shine on their own and within the blends; plus the new vineyards of Ravera and Monvigliero are once again stars, showcasing an extremely bright future for Scavino in these sites.
Do not miss the Carobric Barolo that has quietly become the insider’s most prized buy at Scavino. Comprised of a blend of three vineyards, Carobric is a combination of Cannubi, Bric del Fiasc, and Rocche di Castiglione that was created in the 1996 vintage to highlight three historically important vineyards for Scavino and the traditional art of blending vineyards in Barolo. The result is one of the most age-worthy Barolo at Scavino that has been rewarding Barolo lovers for years now quietly. Today, Barolo fanatics trip over themselves to score bottles of the 1996 and 1999 vintages that are just now in their prime. Unfortunately, the 2018 vintage will be the last vintage for this wonderful Barolo from Scavino. Due to the loss of the Cannubi vineyard, Carobric will cease to exist.
The 2017 Bric del Fiasc is phenomenal with Monica Larner of the Wine Advocate stating - “This wine figures high on a list of the best Barolos made in 2017.” A powerful and bold wine, as you would expect from Bric del Fiasc, the 2017 is a transparent example that expresses the elegance and soft touch that the Scavinos are now harnessing in this historic vineyard.
The 2017s at Scavino are very exciting and compelling wines that will be terrific additions to any Barolo lover's cellar.
Cheers,
