A lighter purple-crimson colour. The bouquet is very elegant in its perfumed cherry style but not exaggerated. This is light to medium bodied on the palate with medium length. Attractive aftertaste though.
The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Prieur 1er Cru came across more closed than the domaine?s other Premier crus light chalk dust scents permeating the red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a very smooth texture more compact and denser than expected but displaying a verticality that will appease those who like "cool" understated Pinot Noir rather than opulence. I suspect it will age extremely well. (Drink between 2023-2040)
An aromatically ripe but cool nose offers up an elegant even perfumed array of red cherry violet and soft earth wisps. There is a beguiling texture to the super-sleek middle weight flavors that possess a lovely sense of underlying tension that builds on the intensely saline-inflected youthfully austere and firm finale where a touch of warmth slowly emerges. This is pretty much textbook Clos Prieur. (Drink starting 2027)
