The New Marcassin If you have been following our offers and reports on Sonoma the past few years, then you know the name Matt Courtney. Matt Courtney is hands down one of the rockstars of Sonoma Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. He is the winemaking force behind Arista Vineyards that has become one of our most requested estates in Sonoma. However, Matt’s personal project and winery is Ferren Wines. Prior to 2024 we would only have a few cases each release that were quickly gobbled up by devout fans. This year is the second year that we have more than a case or two of Ferren single vineyard Chardonnay that we can do a proper offer on Matt’s amazing wines. As we have written about Matt in the past when highlighting why he is one of the most gifted chardonnay winemakers in Sonoma, Matt was the hands-on winemaker at Marcassin for eight years with Helen Turley. During his tenure, the amount of 98 to 100 point wines that they produced was astonishing. Simply put, Matt was an integral part of what made Marcassin one of the top producers of Sonoma Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. At Ferren and Arista, Matt has cemented the fact that it is not only Helen who has the golden touch with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. |
