The Feuersbrunn 2019 Ried Spiegel 1ÖTW Wagram Grüner Veltliner is from an eight-hectare vineyard where Bernhard Ott makes a strict selection to classify only 56 hectoliters (equal to 100 Eimer or buckets) to be worth a 1er cru. Grown on tertiary gravels and glacial loess and vinified in a 56-hectoliter oak vat for 18 months the 2019 Spiegel opens with an intense aromatic and initially more stony precise and coolish bouquet of ripe tropical fruits but also crystalline or some chalky nuances of crushed stones. Silky and charmingly round on the palate this is a fine elegant and full-bodied Velltiner that is more Baroque and juicy compared to the Stein but reveals a fine tannin structure intermingled with crystalline salinity and fine tannin grip. 13% alcohol. Tasted at the domain in June 2021.
