Massolino - Barolo Margheria 2013 (750ml)
Massolino is a Piedmont winery known for its Nebbiolo and Barolo DOCG wines. It was founded in 1896 by Giovanno Massolino and remains family-owned and -operated. His son and daughter built the first cellar in the 1930s and were involved in foundation of the Consorzio di Tutela Barolo Barbarest Alba Langhe e Dogliano an organization that promotes the regional viticultural areas and was especially important before ratification of the formal designations. The most prestigious Massolino wines come from three of the unofficial cru vineyards of Barolo: Margheria Parafada and Vigna Rionda Riserva. The Margheria presents with a deep garnet color. The etheral bouquet exhibits aromas of spice tobacco and brushwood notes. Mineral notes are also evident on the nose. On the palate the wine is harmoniously balanced with some tannic structure in its infancy but with amazing aging potential."

"The 2013 Barolo Margheria is deep layered and highly expressive with a super-classic interplay of beguiling Serraliunga aromatics fruit and structure. Menthol pine tobacco wild cherry and rose petal emerge from this deceptively mid-weight muscular Barolo. The proverbial iron fist in a velvet glove the 2013 Margheria has so much to offer but readers will have to be patient. This is an especially brooding Barolo from Massolino. And it is gorgeous.
