Giacomo Conterno Barbera
A Completely Different Class
Fans of Barolo know the name Giacomo Conterno. This venerable estate in Serralunga d’Alba is one of the greatest producers of Barolo with a rich history that stretches back into the early 1920s. The iconic labels are recognized all over the world.
When the Conterno family acquired Cascina Francia, their production of Barbera took a turn that truly set their Barbera apart from the mainstream of the Langhe. Today, Roberto Conterno, grandson of Giacomo Conterno, is credited with making the finest wines that carry the Conterno name. This is not just the Barolo and Monfortino but also the Barberas. Roberto Conterno is a grower and winemaker whose attention to detail extends to microscopic levels. The embrace of technology compounded with his sense of traditionalism and history is unparalleled. Simply put, the wines at Giacomo Conterno are sensational across all levels!
Roberto Conterno’s Barberas are truly in a class of their own. The single vineyard expression from two of the top crus of Barolo is what makes these some of the most age worthy and complex expressions of Barbera. The dedication that Conterno puts into maintaining the Barbera from these top parcels, that others would plant over to Nebbiolo for Barolo, is marvelous. Quality is foremost at Conterno and we are the beneficiaries of this perfectionist pursuit yielding exemplary results in Barolo and of course, Barbera!
