Rochelt - The Finest Schnapps Have Arrived This is a set of stunning eaux de vie from Rochelt. I can’t say I am terribly surprised, as I have been buying and drinking these eaux de vie for more than twenty years. Günter Rochelt began making his eaux de vies in the 1970s, first as a hobby, but that hobby quickly turned into a profession. Pretty much since then, the Rochelt eaux de vie have been synonymous with outstanding quality. The Rochelts source pristine fruit from a number of top sites. Their approach calls for picking as ripe as possible, which allows for natural fermentation, then double distillation and, finally, aging in traditional glass bonbonnes (dame jeannes) for many years, sometimes more than a decade for the top selections. Günter Rochelt passed away in 2009, but the distillery appears to be in excellent hands under the direction of his daughter, son-in-law and extended family. Tasting the new release brought back very fond memories of my visit many years ago. I can’t recommend them highly enough. Lastly, these are so unique and rare that they make the perfect gift for that hard to buy for wine and spirits friend. But make sure to grab a bottle for yourself, don't give them all away! Cheers, |
