Walter Scott Roars Back
99pt Chardonnay / 98pt Pinot Noir & more

Ken and Erica of Walter Scott are at the top of their game. This Oregon Chardonnay and Pinot Noir producer has been turning out some of the most consistent wines of the past 15 years. 2020 was a challenging vintage that forced the hard decision to only produce a few Chardonnay and zero Pinot Noir.

Earlier this Spring, I wrote about my impressions on the 2021 Vintage after tasting many of the wines with Ken.  I was convinced then and I am convinced now that Walter Scott roared back with some tremendous wines. In short, Ken and Erica nailed it.   Every cuvee in 2021 is of the utmost quality!  Erin Brooks of the Wine Advocate was the first this year to publish her notes and signal that the latest releases of Walter Scott are do not miss wines.  Just a few hours ago, Audrey Frick at Jeb Dunnuck published her Oregon report where Walter Scott excelled.  Perhaps excelled is an understate with the massive notes and scores that are in line with Erin Brooks previous report.

Walter Scott is cemented as one of the premier and leading properties in Oregon.  Their Chardonnays are simply some of the best, making them the leader of the category.  Their Pinot Noirs are classic, timeless examples that are some of the finest produced in the Willamette Valley, and they just keep getting better and better.  Ken's take on Oregon Pinot Noir is built for the long haul but engulfed in refined textures and tannins that make them extremely hard to resist now.

Cheers,
Jeremy

"Walter Scott was founded in 2008 by Erica Landon and her husband Ken Pahlow. Their first vintage was produced in 2009 out of Patricia Green Cellars, then at Evening Land, where Ken worked alongside Dominique Lafon. This clearly had an influence on the wines of Walter Scott, where they began producing Chardonnay in 2011. The next year they moved to their current winery space, which is located in front of the Justice Vineyard of the Eola-Amity Hills. They continue to raise the bar across their portfolio and are producing exceptional wines with purity and balance. The wines for this report were tasted at the winery with Ken and his family, and they do not disappoint in the slightest. These are no-question Burgundian-inspired wines, with a reductive style, though for my taste, they are some of the best wines pushing the bar higher and higher in the Eola-Amity Hills." - Audrey Frick at JebDunnuck.com
