Champagne’s Greatest Vintage

Champagne’s 2008 Vintage continues to impress and unveil its absolute glory.

The 2008 Vintage is going down easily as one of Champagne’s greatest vintages, if not the finest. 2008 is a vintage that is cut from the same cloth as 2002 and1996... it is just that it is cut right out of the middle - as if from the core and a combination of the best of both.

The undeniable truth is that really good vintages produce epic wines and a bounty of very good wines across all price points and styles. That is the beauty of the 2008 vintage, the amount of exceptional Champagne that has come from the vintage is fabulous. The only problem is that so much of it is already long gone.

That is where today’s offer comes in. We have just reloaded on a nice chunk of the 2008 Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs from Pierre Moncuit that is in a prime drinking window - PLUS - we just got magnums for the first time!!!

I’ve been drinking the Moncuit Champagnes since first being introduced to them twenty years ago. A staple of New York City restaurants, the non-vintage Pierre Moncuit Blanc de Blancs have been featured at the best of the best for decades. Yet, even with that showcase here and abroad, the vintage wines of Pierre Moncuit have long run under the radar.

Selfishly, I am very happy about that, especially when a vintage like 2008 comes around. The 2008 Pierre Moncuit is drinking ideally right now and I have to give credit where credit is due. If it were not for Antonio Galloni’s Champagne report last December I too would have forgot to check in on Moncuit’s 2008.

I am so glad I did!

Cheers,

Jeremy
