The 2022 Coteaux Champenois is racy and expressive right out of the glass. Lemon confit marzipan white flowers passion fruit mint and a kiss of French oak meld together effortlessly. Tropical notes lend an exotic flair along with lovely weight and creaminess that builds through the mid-palate and into the finish. This is the first Coteaux Champenois made by Juliette Alpis. - By Antonio Galloni on April 2025 This is another strong set of wines from Domaine Les Monts Fournois the young domaine run by Juliette Alips that was created from the Bérêche family?s holdings a few years ago. The range currently includes a Coteaux Champenois and Champagnes in the micro-négociant Cote range that were formerly sold by Bérêche. The domaine?s Champagne will make its debut in a few years with the 2022 vintage. In the meantime there is plenty to explore in this range. This year I was especially impressed with the Cote wines which are a cut or two above the first releases.

Formerly part of the Bérêche & Fils portfolio but now released under a distinct label and produced at the hands of the winemaker Juliette Alpis?with Raphaël Bérêche still evidently involved?the Domaine Les Monts Fournois 2022 Coteaux Champenois Blanc Ludes Premier Cru originates from a substantial eight-hectare south-facing vineyard rooted in the classic chalky soils of Ludes where the topsoil is notably shallow. It opens with a bouquet of white flowers crisp yellow apple and toasted almonds complemented by an exotic touch derived from Chardonnay-Muscaté selections incorporated in the blend. On the palate it is medium- to full-bodied ample and textural with a rich core of fruit shaped by its solar exposure and the character of the year. Bright acidity lends certain lift and energy leading to a long finish. Published: May 08 2025
