The 2021 Finca Sandoval follows the path of the impressive 2020 with an exuberant Syrah nose all violets tar smoked bacon fat and hints of orange peel. This is a blend of 80% Syrah 10% Bobal and 5% each Moravia Agria and Touriga Nacional. The Syrah is the first they harvest from the higher part of the vineyard with low-yielding clones that deliver small clusters. It fermented with 50% full clusters indigenous yeasts and 15 days of maceration and it matured in a 5000-liter oak foudre. It has 13.5% alcohol with full development of aromas and flavors tight and vertical a medium-bodied palate and very fine and elegant tannins. It's super perfumed and elegant with structure balanced and super fresh and tasty with lots of energy and an ethereal twist. This is the finest vintage to date. 6300 bottles were filled in January 2022. There is a new white wine from Finca Sandoval. They are increasing their vineyards and working with new local varieties Moravia Agria in red and Pardillo or Marisancho in white and they have planted three hectares of Garnacha. In total they work with close to 20 hectares of red and eight of white. They've been suffering from the climate often hail. 2023 was dramatic and yields were very irregular. The wines are certified organic from the 2020 vintage but they've been working organically since 2015. In 2020 they also had hail and couldn't produce La Rosa. In 2021 they got enough rain with a warm summer and rain at the beginning of the harvest; it was a cooler year with freshness. 2022 was very warm and dry with the wines in the style of 2020 a more classical Mediterranean year. Quality keeps growing. Published: Jan 18 2024
