The 18 hectare Le Chiuse estate is situated on the northern side of town on calcareous clay soils rich in marine fossils at elevation of between 300 and 330 meters. There are family ties here to the owners of Biondi Santi. There are five vineyards, all planted by massale selection, from Il Greppo.
Processes at the winery are entirely traditional. Grapes are picked on the early side to preserve acidity and freshness, and are fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel and concrete tanks for about 20 days, following which maturation takes place in 30 HL Slavonian oak botti.
A Rosso is made from fruit sourced from Brunello vineyards but undergoes a shorter fermentation period and ages in large botti for just one year, giving it immediate balance, freshness, and smoothness on.
A Riserva has been produced in the best vintages since 1995. It is the same wine as the regular Brunello but since 2010 has been held back at the winery and released only ten years after the harvest – and is accordingly called “Riserva Dieccianni”.
Olive oil, honey and grappa is also produced.
A joyful wine the 2021 Rosso Di Montalcino is exuberant with poppy aromatics of candied cherry flowers and cinnamon and is bursting with notes of ripe mixed berries and fruit cocktail. Medium-bodied with a soft texture and almost Grenache-like ease on the palate it reveals notes of wild raspberry and herbes de Provence. It is a lovely wine to drink over the next 6-8 years.
vDark animalistic and nearly feral the 2021 Rosso di Montalcino is impossible to ignore. Crushed ashen stones musky red currants earth tones and grilled herbs can all be found. It's softly textured with a pretty inner sweetness and masses of mineral-drenched red fruits. Grippy tannins define the finale yet the mouth is left watering for more as this finishes structured yet still remarkably fresh. (Drink between 2024-2028)
