Hints of raspberries currants and cassis with notes of cut grass in the background. Medium body silky and integrated tannins and a spicy finish. Drink now or age. Sentori di lamponi ribes e cassis con note di erba tagliata in sottofondo. Corpo medio tannino setoso ed integrato ed un finale piccante. Bevi ora o invecchia.
The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna del Lago (with 5000 bottles made) sees fruit sourced from a vineyard site located in the northern part of the appellation. Unlike the Poggio al Granchio expression that is aged in new 300-liter French barrique this wine is instead aged in large 30- and 50-hectoliter Slavonian oak casks. In theory this wine sees less oak-exposed surface area and follows a classic or traditional approach to Tuscan winemaking. Stylistically speaking this Brunello is sharper and glossier with fragrant tones of wild berry and rose hip. The acidity is more pronounced giving this wine beautifully contoured edges. Val di Suga has reintroduced a Brunello di Montalcino Riserva and I have reviewed the first new release of that wine here. This estate did make some 2014 Brunello di Montalcino but in very limited production numbers. It did not make its three single-vineyard expressions Poggio al Granchio Vigna del Lago and Vigna Spuntali in the 2014 vintage. The 2013 editions of these wines are hitting the market now and you will find reviews published here. Published: Feb 28 2019
Cool-toned yet full of ripe dark berries offset yet again by dusty dried florals and smoke the 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna del Lago pulls you close to the glass. The textures are soft pliant almost fleshy in feel with polished black fruits and nuances of sweet tobacco that form toward the close. The finish is long and lightly structured and a twang of sour citrus keeps the mouth watering for more. This is a lovely expression and with medium-term cellaring potential as well. (Drink between 2021-2030)
Brilliant bright garnet. Charming and inviting aromas of raspberries and plum confit. Quite coarse and edgy tannins on the palate medium bodied.
Quite reductive at first but opens up quickly with air to reveal orange peel dried red cherries cedar and paprika. Medium to full body fine and silky tannins beautiful acidity and a medium-chewy finish. A stylish Brunello. Drink now or hold.
Aromas of fragrant blue flower mature plum leather and tobacco emerge from the glass. The full-bodied palate offers crushed black raspberry ripe Marasca cherry orange zest and baking spice set against a tannic backbone. You'll also feel the warmth of alcohol on the midpalate but the fruit richness supports it. Drink 2021?2030. Kerin O?Keefe
Macerated cherry plum licorice tar and tobacco flavors are the highlights. Taut and linear in profile with a dense finish. Stays vibrant revealing echoes of tar and tobacco. Best from 2022 through 2038. 750 cases made 150 cases imported.
