Graphite black cherry blackberry and baking spices are the hallmarks of this opulent red which is backed by a spine of dusty tannins that leave a tactile feel on the long finish. Best from 2024 through 2040. 20 cases imported. ? BS
There are two cuvées from Clos des Porrets-Saint-Georges: This is the regular cuvée made with destemmed grapes. The other Nuits-Saint-Georges Clos des Porrets-Saint-Georges Cuvee Hors d?Âge is vinified with 60% whole-cluster grapes (see below). This cuvee is showing some heat but still with Nordic freshness and liveliness. With its destemmed fruit and 2019 lift I find it to be a close race with the special old-vine cuvee that due to the older raw material should have the edge. This is an intriguing wine.
jmThe 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos des Porrets-Saint-Georges 1er Cru has a tightly wound bouquet iris and incense notes dominating at the moment slightly at the expense of terroir expression. The harmonious palate is medium-bodied with fleshy red berry fruit and a touch of white pepper and clove dovetailing into a piquant lively finish. All it lacks is a bit of persistence on the aftertaste. (Drink between 2023-2038)
Firm reduction blocks an evaluation of the nose today though the underlying fruit does seem ripe. There is excellent vibrancy to the subtly mineral-driven larger-scaled flavors that possess better depth and persistence on the muscular serious and youthfully austere finale. This is very Nuits in character without being overly rustic. (Drink starting 2031)
Dense but lively purple, a little bit reductive, having not yet been racked at any stage. Sweet rich ripe fruit but not cooked here, just ultra-lush, with good acidity. Nicely balanced, with even some elegance, I really enjoy the finish here, with a welcome strictness. Very promising.
