The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Cherbaudes hails from a parcel planted a century ago?and that contains some 5% small-berried selections of Gamay. The wine is Boillot's de facto grand cru soaring from the glass with a captivating bouquet of raspberries plums dried flowers espresso roast and licorice subtly framed by cedary new wood. On the palate the wine is full-bodied ample and velvety with superb depth and dimension at the core succulent acids and a long fine-grained finish. This is one of the great values in serious "de garde" red Burgundy and it comes warmly recommended.

The 2017 Cherbaudes from Monsieur Boillot is outstanding as these very old vines have produced an absolute classic in this vintage. The bouquet wafts from the glass in a sappy and vibrant mix of red plums cherries woodsmoke gamebird mustard seed a complex and gorgeous base of soil cedar and a touch of hazelnut in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep full-bodied and soil-driven with a great core of fruit ripe suave tannins and outstanding focus and grip on the long nascently complex and haunting finish. The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cherbaudes 1er Cru is blessed with some of the best aromatics from Louis Boillot this year featuring copious well-defined black cherry and bilberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a fleshy opening almost confit-like offering vivacious red cherries orange zest and Moroccan spices toward the finish. This has great potential.
